Emotional Freedom Tapping
There are two parts to what you say when you are tapping:
Zoom into your feelings
Zoom out to frame your feelings in the context of your life as a whole
The transition phrase is something like this: even though I feel this way, I'm probably going to be okay
Part 1: Zoom in
Zoom in by talking about what you feel, both physically and emotionally.
If you don't like how you feel or you don't want to feel that way, say that.
Part 2: Zoom out
Zoom out by talking about how you will probably be okay even though you don't like how you feel.
The larger context of your life is that you will probably be is that you will probably find a way to be okay even when you feel bad.
The second part is where you help your brain zoom out instead of staying so focused on the unpleasant emotional reality that you're experiencing.
You zoom out by saying thinks like:
Even though I feel this way, I'm probably going to be okay.
Even though I don't want to feel this way, I'm probably going to find a way to be okay.
Even if my partner doesn't change, I'm probably going to be okay.
Even if this feeling doesn't go away, I will probably find a way to be okay.
These “even though” statements serve the purpose of adding a wider context to what you are feeling.
Your brain wants to zoom in on your feelings without paying attention to the wider context.
The “even though” statements help you zoom out and look at the big picture.
Feel free to customize this script by saying whatever you want, but pay attention to the energy you're bringing.
